An Effete Epilogue
(with apologies to William Shakespeare's Henry VIII)
CHORUS:
As clichés go, “Can’t please ‘em all,” will do.
Applicable to many, some, or few
who may have seen this play or read that verse,
unsure of which is better, which is worse:
misogynist or cuckold. Any “male”
positioned high up on the “power” scale,
bold women claim the richer one as theirs
in hopes of someday winding up his heirs.
Accustomed, as they’ve grown, to leisure lives
as showcase mistresses or trophy wives,
rewards they feel entitled to receive
no matter what detractors may believe.
The ladder of “success” up which they’ve slept
Would surely mark such “Ladies” as adept.
